Autumn Leaf, 2020

I was particularly attracted to how this single autumn leaf  was positioned on the ground, how the afternoon light shine through it, highlighting the veins and structure. The intention of this study was to re-create the warmth, light and colours of a later autumn afternoon.  With respect to the composition, it was important to capture the shadow and reflected light on the ground which meant not all the leaf could be situated on the sketchbook page. I also decided not to include a detailed ground as I wanted to focus to be on the leaf itself..
