Brentford Covered Warehouse, 2021

Brentford Covered Warehouse depicts a partially covered area at the Gauging Lock along Grand Union Canal in Brentford. I was inspired by that sharp contrast between the delicate floral latticework and the boatyard’s industrial demeanour. Wide shadows created by the beams and rafters were so striking, they became the focal point of the piece. The observer is looking directly at the boat, which initially seemed a bit flat; so, I exaggerated the vertical perspective to draw the viewer into the scene.
