Part of a developing series “Scenes from below the M25”, this painting is inspired by a section of the Wey Navigation below the M25 at New Haw. The Way was one of the first British rivers to be made navigable and opened to barge traffic in 1653.
I was and still am intrigued by the contrasts: perspectives with opposing angles; the loud motorway with its graffiti supports amid the quiet leafy stillness of the canal; a modern transportation system versus an older one.
